Sarah took the time to ask these ?’s and I am one never to pass up a time to answer… I think it is becasue I secreatly love to hear myself talk. But whatever. *G*
Jen - I just have a few questions. 1) How many days a week did you exercise? For how long? What type of exercise did you do? 2) Do you plan to lose any more weight? Based on that chart - it looks like you have lost 80 pounds - that is absolutely amazing? 3) Did your kids get upset about no junk food? I think mine would have a fit about it. 4) not a question - but I think you should post a before and after picture. It should certainly motivate a lot of people. Great Job. Keep up the good work.
I started in August with just getting in the pool. I am a swimmer from high school and have a love for the water. It is were I feel most at home. I figured if I could just start there we could see what would happen. Than ti grew. I needed to save money on gas. I have a trolley that I pull behind my bike for any little kids that need a ride. My youngest being that it was his first few weeks in school got to go to and from school int eh trolley. So you know that is a 2.5 mile ride one way. I was taking him to and from therapy as well. It worked out great for the gas and for my body. In October I was talking to my swim coach. (from high school) and told him that I knew I needed to look into some dry land…(weight lifting) but I didn’t know were to start and doing it on my own was a BIG undertaking when I knew NOTHING about it. So he thought I might be able to get our local JrHi P.E. teacher to take me on. And he did. He has been a trainer in the gym for me since than. He asked my goals and we went from there. At first it was only 3 days a week. Than went up to 5. than it was “Be more sport specific” He pushed me in all the right places. So baby steps is what I am saying here. But as for what I am doing now….. I work out 6 days a week. 5 of those I work out for 2.5 hours (Or more) a day. Everything in your life is an opportunity to work out. Going through the grocery store is a whole new experience for me. I have been known to stand at the milk and use the two gallons that I am buying as weights right there.
here is how it looks
Monday- bike for 1hour 15 min. run outside for 30 min. than swim for 1 hour. Any extra through out the day are a plus.
Tuesday- bike for 30 min. weight train for 30 min. run for 30 min. swim for 1 hour.
Wednesday-bike for 1hour 15 min. run outside for 30 min. than swim for 1 hour. Any extra through out the day are a plus. While hubby is in Aquatic therapy I get in another 1-1.5 hours of swimming.
Thursday- bike for 30 min. weight train for 30 min. run for 30 min. swim for 1 hour. I donate time to the school on this day. This is one of those extras.. I bike to and from the school 3 miles round trip than I also will be known to be doing sit ups and push up’s even pull ups while I am, running the copier. Every time is an opportunity to make your body stronger.
Friday-bike for 1hour 15 min. run outside for 30 min. than swim for 1 hour. Any extra through out the day are a plus. While hubby is in Aquatic therapy I get in another 1-1.5 hours of swimming.
Saturday is only 1.5 hours of swimming. Than I normally try to get on my bike or run on the treadmill latter in the day. Not to mention chase my kids round the house.
Most important is to remember I didn’t start here. That is just were I am right now. I am trying to be ready for that Tri and it scares me. * G*
I have lost 80 pounds and I am darned proud of that. Do I plan to loose more. Yeah I do. The goal that my Dr. and I set was that I would loose till I got to 130-135. she wants to try and get me to a healthy level that will be maintainable for me. I am happy were I am. Truly happy. But loosing a few more wont hurt me. I have a great chuncky middle that could use some toning.
My kids were not upset about no junk food. Here is the biggest thing. I just stoped having it around. With the knowledge to them that everything was okay in moderation. They still get to have a treat. I use a lot of sugar free Jello in my house. But they know… my 9 year old was over at a friends house and the dad called asking me what I had done to my son. Here I am thinking. Ummmm…. nothing, I don’t think why? He said. I have been trying to give him soda and a twinky/ ho ho all night and the kid will have one of it. Keeps telling me something and another about moderation. I laughed so hard. And was filled with pride. They are listening and learning how to fuel their bodies. With him being a swimmer and going to be doing a Tri with me next year. I am happy to hear it.
Yours may have a fit. But the best thing I can think is to start substituting. Get rid of it and bring in the jello. Put some whip topping on it. And whalla…. you have a sweet treat that wont kill you or them. Fruit is a great alternative to sweet snacks. Give it a month and they will realize that you mean it.
I have an older few pictures below for you. I put them in a collage. I need to get one from now.
but I am lazy and I need to ask my kids to help out. But enjoy.
Thank you for taking the time to read and ask ?’s. sometimes I think i throw things out there that never get read. Thank you for the complement and I plan on being fit for the rest of my life. it is a change that has made me think differently about everything.
This is very doable for anyone. And all you have to do is put one foot in front of the other and get started.
grab the biggest looser books read them and get started on a new healthy way of life. It is so worth it. And you feel so much better.
God Bless

I have had several dear friends ask me how I am doing this. Man that is just a loaded ?. I am sure you are asking why would she say that. Well it is because it is what NO ONE WANTS TO HEAR! So I think I will put it up here and than you will all be able to see it here in Black and (green) white. Than you can read and take what you want and leave what you do not want.
this is a very hard thing to do. Think hard over the next 2 weeks on how to prepare yourself for this the right way. Big thing that I did was get all the junk out of my house. If I wasn’t going to eat it. And I knew it was bad for me why would I let my kids eat it. What I mean is the fruit snacks, the things to mindlessly munch on. Ect. I went and bought a pop corn popper so that if we needed to munch we would do it with Yellow popping corn ( healthier for you) and we put ICBINB (I can’t believe it’s not butter) spray on it. Works out great. And is our snack on Biggest Looser night. We all sit down and eat it together while watching our favorite show.

when it came to exercise. Even if I didn’t get in my whole work out. I still GOT UP. That is the biggest thing. Get yourself into a routine and than change it when you need too. Once you pass the 3 week mark you wake up even if you don’t want too. That is when we need the most prayers. We are awake. But Please Lord give me the strength to get out there and work out instead of rolling over.

The biggest thing for me to learn was that this is really all about calories in calories out. It is old school. And sounds out of date. BUT REALLY this is what it is REALLY about. So here is the formula that Biggest Looser teaches and the one that I use. (Your current weight)X 7 = the amount of calories you need in order to loose weight. So lets say I weigh 170 times that by 7 you get 1190 calories a day. Than all the exercise you can get in will burn the fat that is on your body.
A calorie is a calorie is a calorie. Yes there are better calories than others for you. You can get a lot more nutrition out of yogurt or carrots than you will our of a bowl of potato chips. But if you are counting calories and you want to do that. By all means find a way to fit it in.
everything and I mean EVERYTHING in Moderation. Every Friday in my house is pizza movie night. My kids have worked hard all week at school they have passed their tests and they have done everything in their power to do well in school for the week. so we unwind with friends. We invite and eat. Now I get chips and I get pizza. I always have something a little different i eat a south beach pizza and add all sorts of veggies on it too. But it is my one day to do something different. And yeah I eat the chips too.

REMEMBER…. this isn’t a diet. A diet is subject to fail. And is something that is only temporary. This is a life change. You will forever watch what you are eating and will always out your body to keep it lean and healthy.
Get out a journal. As soon as you are done exercising in the morning write down what you did. How hard it was. How you felt when you did it. This is a great pick me up in 3 months. When you are writing “Man today was hard on the bike. I did 14 miles but I am whooped I wish it would be easier than it is. “ than when you look back to the beginning you read. “ HOLY TOLIDO batman…. I barely made it to the therapy office today. That trolley and the kids in it really put me through the ringer. 2 miles. Can you believe I pulled 90 pounds for 2 miles?” you see. I didn’t even realize how much better I was doing till I looked back. I was picking at myself. Pulling myself apart. BUT I was so much better than 3 months earlier. And that was more helpful than you will ever know.
Journal all your food intake. This is neat too. After 3 months you will see how different you eat than you did in the beginning. If you keep a notebook by you at all time. A small one for your purse for while you are out…. than you can keep track of the foods and when you get home and the kids are down go into the computer and use C.C. I think I have sent it to you before. There it can give you a thought of how well you did on your calories. I do it after every meal so that i know how much I have left for the day. But I am at a point were that is really important for me. I am getting low.
I like to say that. Soon I will be maintenance. That will be a whole new world for me. Not sure how that goes but I will figure it out when I get there. Than I will be ready for you when you are there too.

all of this being said. Don’t through the towel in because one day you didn’t get up or you ate WAY to many calories one day. Pick up the towel and try it again. Maybe work a little harder in the gym the next morning and be really strict on your eating that day. But never give up just because you had a hard morning.
This is a letter I wrote to a friend. One of the better ones I have written on the subject.
Here are a few of the sites that I use to help me with this journey.
http://caloriecount.about.com/ this is one of the best calorie counting sites that I have found. Through using this I am able to keep count of my calories better than when I write them down. I journal on here about what is going on in my life and what type of workouts I am getting done etc. It is a really nice thing to have. And easier than doing it “By hand” * G*
http://www.biggestloserclub.com/ is another great place to be. I have all the books read them and started this journey. It was because of people like Suzy and Kia and Ali that I was able to pull through all this. I am a happy woman because they were able to show that it is well worth it. And GOLLY LOOK AT ME NOW! The books talk a lot about what I preach in my home everyday. … everything in moderation but NO you may not have that soda full of calories and no nutrition.
http://www.amazon.com/ here is a great place to get the books and read them. Really read them. They know what they are talking about.
Well I think that is enough talking for now. Any ?’s you may have I am willing to answer. But you know. Calories in calories out is the answer.
